Interview with a Skater: Meet Margo 🌸
Meet Margo, a 21-year-old Melbourne-based architecture student, skater and all-round creative talent. Margo first laced up her skates in 2019, discovering a love for skating that grew during lockdown as a way to stay active and enjoy a little sunshine. Since then, she’s been hooked!
When she’s not studying architecture or rolling around Melbourne, Margo has a pretty incredible achievement under her belt; representing Australia in artistic swimming at the Paris Olympics. From the pool to the pavement, Margo brings creativity, movement and self-expression to everything she does. We’re all in awe of her at Impala, so we caught up with her on the set of our Vintage Floral Skate Shoot to chat all things skating, creativity and her favourite Melbourne spots.
Hi Margo! Tell us a little about yourself and what you’re up to with Impala today.
Hi, I’m Margo! I’m a Melbourne-based skater and I’m here with Impala on the Vintage Floral Skate Shoot.
Take us back to the beginning - how did you first get into skating, and what made you fall in love with it?
I started skating in 2019, and it became a great way to stay active during the COVID lockdowns. Now, I find it an awesome way to get outside, enjoy the sunshine and spend time with friends.
What do you love most about skating? Is it the movement, or simply having fun with your friends?
For me, skating is such a fun way to get outside and enjoy the sunshine with friends. It’s a great way to stay active while doing something I genuinely love.
Melbourne has so many great places to skate. Where can we usually find you rolling around?
I love skating at my local netball courts because they’re really open and smooth, and at the Melbourne Museum.
You’ve achieved something pretty incredible outside of skating, too! Can you tell us about your journey in artistic swimming?
I was actually an artistic swimmer and represented Australia at the Paris Olympics. I feel like artistic swimming and roller skating go hand-in-hand because you can be creative and expressive with both, and just have a lot of fun with it.
P.S. This won’t be the last you see of Margo! Keep an eye on our feeds, because we have something very special in the works for next year, and we can’t wait to share it with you ✨
